Trained as a sculptor, Denise received a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art and an
MFA from Syracuse University College of Visual & Performing Art, both in sculpture. She has
exhibited in New York City and upstate New York. Denise resides in New York City and Beacon, NY.
The belief in the power of drawing to affect discovery has driven her body of work which
includes wood and clay sculpture, oil and pastel drawings and woodblock prints. Her
drawings often appear to be carved out of the picture plane, resembling her sculpture, while
her sculpture has been inspired by her drawings of objects and natural forms. The dramatic and
richly colored work comes to life revealing unexpected human qualities and whimsy. |
